Zack Attack & the Neuro Escape Room

This project was created for the Physical Therapy Department with the goal of creating a creative learning interaction that employed gamification through an escape room environment. Faculty subject matter experts (SME) provided a test-based Word document with an outline structure of questions. I worked with the faculty to understand the desired goals of the project and the gamification requirements.

The eLearning module was built around a medical case scenario (case-based learning/CBL) and peppered throughout the case were questions and engagement interactions that allowed students to progress with the case. If some of the questions were answered correctly, the student would receive a letter that would be needed to unscramble a word and escape the module, but if a student answered the module incorrectly, they would be placed on a 15-second time delay. Altogether, the students had 2-hours to complete the entire case eLearning module and “escape;” students who answered correctly were rewarded with a collection of letters, and students who answered incorrectly were challenged with the time delay.

Additionally, the module was enhanced with multimedia elements such as sound and animation. Multiple sounds added an additional level of realism to the case. A car crash sound was added to the case introduction to support the storyline; atmospheric hospital sounds were added to the hospital scene. Animated gifs were added to congratulatory screens to add some additional flair and excitement for correct answers.
