Project/Initiative Description
A team at WesternU has developed a chatbot, designed to mimic a patient-provider dialog utilizing the five skills of an empathetic conversation. This technology-enhanced teaching tool supports student learning through an artificial intelligence (AI) natural language processing (NLP) platform. As students prepare for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), the chatbot (pre-loaded with patient case scenarios) plays the role of the patient, and students can practice being the medical provider.
A design framework was created to support the project’s development.
